The Stick in Our Hand

8.20.15

If I could summarize today, I would say that we used the “stick in our hand”. This term was used in Chapter 7 of Hole in the Gospel to describe that in the same way God used Moses and his staff/stick, God will use us, our knowledge and abilities.

There was a need in the school to educate the students about maintaining the health of their chicken coop and crop fields. We researched and learned how to maintain chicken coops and how to cultivate a better crop. This knowledge became the stick in our hands.

Yes, we realized that there would be a language barrier. We realized that communicating our point would be difficult, but we knew that training the kids on how to take care of their chicken and crop was important. While we were presenting, I was very happy that Daudi and Chikoti was able to translate and better elaborate on our presentations. When we finished our presentation and opened the floor for questions, many hands raised up. Many of the students had questions about what we taught them and they were really interested in maintaining their projects.

In the Bible, God uses many people to do his work. Language is never an issue. God qualifies those he calls, He doesn't call the qualified. This is a value that I need to instill in myself.
